Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources in Lagos State, Nigeria

Olalere is a seasoned energy expert, with 23 years of experience working across the energy value chain in Nigeria, the UK and the USA. Since 2019, He is the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources in Lagos State, charged with the mandate to ensure the delivery of reliable energy to its citizens and achieve energy security for the State.

He previously held various roles including as the Structured Ventures Executive at Axxela Limited, Head of Business Development at Oando Gas & Power Limited, and various roles at Schlumberger and General Electric. In these roles he created new businesses from Concept to revenue generation (including multiple power plants and gas infrastructure), negotiated financing instruments for project developments, negotiated and executed Power Purchase Agreements for new power plants, managed the Operations and Maintenance of a 1, 800MW portfolio of power plant assets across the UK, created and led a business development team, advised on government policy papers in the energy sector amongst others.

He earned his MBA from Pace University New York, and his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ibadan. Olalere has benefitted from leadership and professional trainings at various international institutions such as INSEAD, GE Management Development Institute, Wharton Business School, Euromoney, the International Faculty of Finance and the Lagos Business School.
